God is a Verb God
is a Verb:Kabbalah and the Practice of Mystical Judaism

by David A. Cooper
Kabbalah, and Jewish mysticism. A great contemporary introduction to Kabbalistic thought, told in parables and stories of Rabbi Cooper’s personal experience. Cooper tells us about the mystical meanings of the branches of Judaic Tree of Life, creation, angels, evil, death and life after death and more.

The Power of Myth
by Joseph Campbell
Joseph Campbell theorized that all myths and epics
are linked in that they are cultural manifestations
of the universal need of the human psyche to explain
social, cosmological, and spiritual realities. This
book examines myth and it’s relationship to our modern
world, and the journey inward; the Hero and the Goddess
and helps us to find the common truths in all culture’s
myths.

The
Truth about Medium
by Gary E. R. Schwartz
Ok, I admit the
reason this book is on my list is pure vanity:
I’m in it.
Schwartz devotes 3 pages(rather inaccurately) to my brief interaction
with the Professional Media Skeptic, “The Amazing Randi” and recounts the story where Randi promises to push a peanut through Times Square
sans clothing, if I can prove I’m telling the truth
about Stanley Krippner. I didn’t care enough to see
Randi naked, but countless others proved me correct.
I should start a Randi clock, I know….but then
that would give him even more attention, that he
certainly doesn’t need. Please don’t buy the book
if you just want to read about me — the book is
awful, and a yawn at that. Just search at Amazon
and read it there.

The
Gnostic Gospels

by Elaine Pagels
A controversial and inspirational work from Professor
Elaine Pagels, written long before the DiVinci code,
she brings the historic Jesus to life, and makes a credible
case for a very human, loving yet very metaphysical
Jesus.

Wisdom
of the Mystic Masters
by Joseph J. Weed
The Rosicrucians are a fraternal order, devoted to
the pursuit of esoteric wisdom. They claim that the
order has roots that began in remote antiquity in Egypt
and continued in existence through periods of deliberate
secrecy. Rosicrucian teachings combine elements of Egyptian
Hermetism, Gnosticism, Jewish Cabalism, and other occult
beliefs and practices. This book is an “advanced
beginner’s” introduction to Rosicurucian methods
in harmony, karma, birth, death and reincarnation, thought
and emotion energy, healing, law of cycles, power of
prayer, telepathy, psychic projection and the the Rosicrucian
Way of Life. Written with several examples, written
in a way that clearly explains abstract thoughts on
energy, vibration and more.

Anatomy
of the Spirit
by Caroline Myss
Carolyn Myss is a contemporary medical intuitive,
energy healer and spiritual author. In this book, she
ties together the 3 main traditional religious thought
systems. She shows how the Christian sacraments, Hindu
chakras and the Kabbalah’s Tree of Life, all teach the
same unified concepts about the stages of a spiritual
path. The book is detailed, but the audio cassettes
(or CD-Rom) of Ms. Myss speaking on the subject to an
audience, really cuts to the chase.

Care
of the Soul : A Guide for Cultivating Depth and Sacredness
in Everyday Life
by Thomas Moore
Take good care of your soul, you belong to you. From Amazon:” …considered to be one of the best
primers for soul work ever written. Thomas Moore, an
internationally renowned theologian and former Catholic
monk, offers a philosophy for living that involves accepting
our humanity rather than struggling to transcend it.
By nurturing the soul in everyday life, Moore shows
how to cultivate dignity, peace, and depth of character.
For example, in addressing the importance of daily rituals
he writes, “Ritual maintains the world’s holiness.
As in a dream a small object may assume significance,
so in a life that is animated by ritual there are no
insignificant things.” This is the eloquence that
helped reintroduce the sacred into everyday language
and contemporary values.”—-I especially enjoyed
the chapters on “The Soul and Power”, “Gifts
of Depression” and “The Sacred Arts of Life”.
This is an excellent book that reminds you take good
care of your soul.

Dogs
That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home : And Other
Unexplained Powers of Animals
by Rupert Sheldrake
From Amazon: “How do cats know when it’s time
to go to the vet, even before the cat carrier comes
out? How do dogs know when their owners are returning
home at unexpected times? How can horses find their
way back to the stable over completely unfamiliar terrain?
With a scientist’s mind and an animal lover’s compassion,
world-renowned biologist Rupert Sheldrake presents a
groundbreaking exploration of animal behavior that will
profoundly change the way we think about animals —
and ourselves. After five years of extensive research
involving thousands of people who have pets and work
with animals, Dr. Sheldrake proves conclusively what
many pet owners already know: there is a strong connection
between humans and animals that defies present-day scientific
understanding.”

The
Living Energy Universe
by Gary E. R. Schwartz, Linda
G. S. Russek, Paul Pearsall
I’m not a scientist, and I was able to understand
the principals of psychics that Gary talks about. This
is a book about love; spirit; survival of that spirit;
after death communication; and God, and how all those
concepts they can co-exist and evolve together. Gary
Schwartz tested several mediums in his ground breaking
experiments in the accuracy of mediums for the University
of Arizona.

Spiritual
Madness : The Necessity of Meeting God in Darkness

by Caroline Myss
Caroline Myss explains why must go through the “Dark
Night of the Soul”, so that we can change our expectations
of God. She reminds us that to be a “modern mystic”
we must be in the world, but not of the world, and live
in constant gratitude. She discusses stigmata, channeling
and prayer, and speaks to the expectations we have of
God, if we expect to be “rewarded” with psychic
or spiritual gifts in this life time, in return for
our desire to be close to God. This tape will be appreciated
by anyone “hitting a brick wall” or “having
a dark night of the soul” in their spiritual or
intuitive development.

AngelSpeake
by Barbara Mark, Trudy Griswold
Angelspeake shows you how to not only communicate
to your angels, but how to let them communicate to you,
through meditative writing. This is not “automatic
writing”. The authors refer to “angels”
(with a small “a”) as your guides, heavenly
messengers, ascended masters and those who have crossed
over. A very quick read, this is a very encouraging
book.

Invocation
of the Angels
by Joan Borysenko
On the first side, Joan Borysenko shares her own story
about being a scientist, and coming to accept the spiritual
side of her own nature. On the second side, she shares
an ancient meditation called Invocation of the Angels,
in which she shows how to invoke the help of four archangels.
She relates a Hebrew bedtime story which explains that
the names of the four angels specifies a particular
aspect of God that each angel carries.

Ishmael
by Daniel Quinn
“TEACHER seeks pupil. Must have an earnest desire
to save the world. Apply in person.” So starts
the journey of a man who is a life-long seeker of truth.
The teacher he finds, will amaze and astound you. Your
very core beliefs about the world will be shattered
and challenged. Are you a taker or a leaver? Do you trust every piece
of news that you read in the newspaper, or hear on
TV to be truth? How much of what you learned at the
dinner table is really true? This book picked me up and shook me in the place
that all my assumptions about reality lived. Once
I began to read, I could not put it down put it down,
because it was just so true. This is an eye-opening
portrayal of reality and possibilities portrayed against
a fictional backdrop of teacher-student dialog.

Hello
fro
m Heaven!
by Bill Guggenheim, Judy Guggenheim
This book details what an ADC (After Death Communication)
is, and the different ways it can present itself ( auditory,
visual, sleep-state ). Includes hundreds of first hand
accounts from people who have received communication
from their loved ones on the other side. This book is a source of hope and comfort, and I
highly recommend it.

The Conscious Universe : The Scientific Truth of Psychic
Phenomena
by Dean Radin, Ph.D.
Dean Radin’s book The Conscious Universe has several
chapters including one called A Field Guide to Skepticism
which effectively debunks all skeptical arguments made
about valid and genuine, scientifically proven psi and
psychic phenomena. This is a very well written, easy to read, yet academic
book that teaches readers about statistics, probabilities
and the experiments that have taken place up to publication
date. Its been translated into several languages and
is a perennial bestseller.

The
Psychic Pathway : A Workbook for Reawakening the
Voice of Your Soul
by Sonia Choquette

is a writer, intuitive, and spiritual counselor who
has been in private practice for over 30 years. Trained

Basic
Psychic Development : A User’s Guide to Auras,
Chakra & Clairvoyance
by John Friedlander, Gloria Hemsher
This is a semi-dry approach
to psychic development but it does a good job of describing
earth and spirit energies. Topics include grounding,
running energy, chakras, auras, out of body chakras,
and communicating with your healing guide.

Second
Sight
by Judith Orloff M.D.
In this compelling self-portrait,
psychic and psychiatrist Dr. Judith Orloff explores
the mysterious and poorly understood realm of the psychic,
based on her own experiences and those of her patients.
In riveting detail, she describes how an ignored premonition
of a patient’s suicide attempt convinced her to not
only embrace her gift but to incorporate it into her
practice. Judith also describes her participation in
Psi research at Berkely.

The
Book of Divination
By Ann Fiery
I purchased this book in the “bargain bin”
at my local Barnes & Noble, thinking it would be
a light treatment and a “coffee table” book.
I was pleasantly surprised at amount of insightful history
on each subject, and the light-handed way Ms. Fiery
approached these subjects: not too serious, with a touch
of humor, but always reverent. For the tarot enthusiast,
the real secret treasure of this book, lies not in the
wealth of information you can gain about the history
other divination methods, but how Ms. Fiery wraps it
up in the final chapter on Tarot, and shows how some
of the other divination methods and symbols are infused
in the classic tarot. If you can find this book in the
bargain bin, it’s truly a delight.
